Doesn’t it seem like a normal fan just for fanning?
To be fair, it is used like a fan you would use to fan yourself on a hot day or to cool something off, but a traditional fan is different to other fans in that it is compact and foldable, making it very convenient to carry around, whether it be hanging from your neck or sticking out of your bag.
There are fans made of cloth, paper, silk, and even scented fans, letting you enjoy a scent that takes your mind off the heat.
These folding fans were invented by the Japanese 1,200 years ago, and their primary purpose was not for fanning, but to use for notetaking in the imperial court. In more recent times electric fans that are carried at hand or hung from the neck have become more popular, but a foldable fan doesn’t need batteries- and not just that, they can be used as cover against the rain, for shade, or as an accessory for dancing or in place of a mic during karaoke!
There is no end to the different types of materials and designs of foldable fans in Japan, so please take the time to find your favorite eco-friendly fan that is perfect not just for cooling down but as an expression of your own personality!
